The Deepfake

With the development and sophistication of AI and machine learning, we are seeing great progress, more efficiencies and potential cost savings when using the technology. We are also seeing how it can be used to alter reality and manipulate our world if it ended up in the hands of the wrong people. For example, take a look at the recently released video of the morphed Jennifer Lawrence and Steve Buscemi.

I get chills down my spine. It looks so real and apparently it isn't so difficult to achieve. This technology has already been used to create fake porn films with popular celebrities.

But let's take a moment here just to imagine the implications for the 2020 presidential elections, reputations being affected, personal relationships impacted.

On the flip side, consider how this tech can make dubbing for the film industry, for example, so much easier, video information, news and films much more accessible to any local market, and costs kept at minimum. Take a look at this video, released by a company called Synthesia, who uses AI to synchronize the lip movements of an actor and match lip movements and facial expressions to the language it translates to.

It makes you wonder, who do you trust and what is even real anymore?
